Goodbye 2012

Dress: Old Navy | Vest: Old Navy | Tights: Ninewest | Boots: Ninewest
Coat: Ellen Tracey via Burlington Coat Factory

For some reason, every time I come to NYC during the winter, it snows. (Good for me, bad for the New Yorkers.) Despite the fact that I got sick towards the end of the trip, I had a great time.

2012... We've seen the best of times and the worst of times, but overall I wouldn't change a thing. 2013, here we come!

Owl on 34th Street

Sweater: Old Navy | Striped Tee: Old Navy | Skirt: Banana Republic | Boots: Ninewest

Still in New York!

We spent a day on 34th street, and it was just a little (meaning very, extremely, bitterly) cold. But I had my owl sweater, and Dwayne had his monkey hat to keep warm. And our family... they made it entertaining. What more could we ask for?

Here are a few photos from my husband's instagram:

(Oh that's my brother-in-law, Dwight, to the far left. He's a riot!)

Yes, we're a peculiar bunch, but we like it that way.

Happy weekend, loves!

More and More

Cardigan: Ross | Skirt: Worthington for JC Penney | Tights: Ninewest | Booties: Ninewest

I wore this simple outfit to Christmas morning service. These black booties have stuck with me through five winters now... What do you say... Think they can last five more?

New York Cold

Sweater: Banana Republic | Skirt: Worthington for JCPenney | Belt: The Limited
Tights: Ninewest | Booties: Ninewest via Ross

I'm currently in New York celebrating the Christmas holiday with family. Needless to say it's cold here... But I enjoy seeing what the cold season up north has to offer.

We're actually on our way out to head to the City, so I've got to run! I hope you're having a blast with loved ones wherever you are.

Merry day-after-Christmas!

Merry Christmas

I hope you all are having a wonderful Christmas! Remember, Jesus is the
reason for the season...

God Bless!

Rescued

Shirt: Forever 21 | Skirt: Banana Republic | Shoes: Calvin Klein via Macy's | Clutch: Forever 21

This morning was extremely windy with a chance of rain. Me being the determined gal that I am, I still attempted to take photos. I set up my tripod and adjusted the camera several times due to the poor lightening that the overcast weather was causing. I posed for a few pictures, but they weren't quite coming out right... Then the husband came to the rescue. Two minutes after he picked up the camera, the tripod went crashing to the floor. Thankfully at that point, the camera was safe in the hands of my knight in shining armor... Well, actually, he was wearing work clothes, but you get the point.

Happy weekend, loves!

Liebster Award Tag

A whiiiiiiiiile ago, Chantal tagged me and nominated me for a Liebster award. I don't really do tags (then again, I've never been tagged...), but I figure this could be a way for my readers to learn a little more about me.

Here's how it works (I think):

1. Each blogger nominated must post 11 things about themselves.
2. Answer the 11 questions the tagger has asked.
3. Create 11 questions to ask other bloggers.
4. Choose a few bloggers with less than 200 followers to nominate, and link them on their blog post. (You can't tag back the person who tagged you.)

11 things about me? Here goes:

1. I was born in Jamaica.
2. I have a Bachelors in Communication and a Masters in Business Administration.
3. When I was little, I had several pets including a dog, cats, and bunny rabbits.
4. I'm an old soul... I love '50s, '60s, '70s, and '80s Jamaican and American culture.
5. I. LOVE. FOOD. (I know most people love food, but I seriously think I have a problem.)
6. I've never gotten a speeding ticket, although I try not to speed... a lot.
7. I have an iPhone that is wasted on me. It took me months to download apps that I barely use and over a year to sync music to it (just 37 songs).
8. I learn the Word of God better when it is formally taught to me in an organized manner which is why I take bible classes.
9. I'm slightly O.C.D. when it comes to my closet. Everything must be clean and ironed before hung up, and I can tell if something was moved within 5 seconds of walking in. True story.
10. My favorite things to do are laugh, travel, spend quality time with my husband, and anything that will create a lasting, happy memory.
11. I'm not very interesting.

11 questions Chantal asked... Oh, and answers:

1. What do you think it means to be a friend? To me, a friend is someone who is honest and present. (You don't have to me near is proximity to be present.)
2. Romance or action movie or both? Both, but it's easier for me to watch and understand a romantic movie.
3. Do you admire any celebrity, explain why or why not? Not really... I don't follow celebrities enough to admire one in particular.
4. What career do you want or currently have, do you love it? I work in public relations and marketing. Yes, I love it.
5. What ministry are you passionate about? Any ministry that I can effectively use my talents to win people to Christ. I'm involved in a lot at my church, mostly behind the scenes.
6. Your favoritest cartoon ever? Favoritest? Sailor Moon, Tom & Jerry, and Boondocks (hilarious!)
7. Hair up or down? Down. I don't have patience for up-dos.
8. Bible app or actual Bible? Actual Bible!
9. What's something that you are really good at? Writing... Although I'm the queen of writer's block.
10. Do you procrastinate? It depends. Since it depends, I guess that means yes.
11. What do you think the first word out of your mouth the moment you saw God in all if His Glory? I imagine that I would be speechless.

I'm tagging Nisa Mack and Seun. I actually don't have questions for you girls... I'm just interested in learning 11 new things about you :)

Make it a great day!

Today

Top: Marshall's | Skirt: Forever 21 | Shoes: Zara | Clutch: Thrifted, Plato's Closet

I'm back in the swing of things today. Although I was in Jamaica for a somber occasion, I was able to spend my few days there with family and have a great time. Precious moments with loved ones really are special. Always remember to make the most of them...

Psalm 90:12-17

To the survivors of the events that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary and the families
who lost loved ones, my heart and prayers are with you all.

I'm heading to Jamaica today for a quick visit, but I'll be back before you know it!

Happy weekend :)

Pinspiration // Winter White

I created a board on Pinterest called "Winter White". I've seen so many fascinating white and neutral combos in the blogsphere recently, and although I'm terrified to try the look myself, I really do think it's gorgeous. (I'm a bit clumsy and would be the one discover an unknown substance on my outfit 5 minutes into wearing it.)

For more "Winter White" images and outfit ideas, check out my Pinterest board here.

Spotted

Cardigan: Apt 9 for Kohl's | Camisole: Forever 21 | Skirt: H&M | Shoes: Thrifted, Jessica SImpson via Plato's Closet | Clutch: Aldo

How cool is it that leopards, cheetahs, and jaguars get to wear stylish prints 24/7? Yes. I'm the girl who thinks of this stuff. Now onto today's post...

Yesterday I showed you my take on fall brights by using cobalt blue and orange to spice up a rather plain cream, grey, and black ensemble. Today I wanted to try wearing leopard print with burgundy. (I previously put some ideas together in this post.) I'm now realizing that my skirt looks a little more purple than burgundy, but I think it still works.

What are your fall and winter favorites?

Due Time

Blazer: Forever 21 | Top: Forever 21 | Skirt: JC Penney | Belt: Forever 21 | Shoes: Zara | Clutch: Forever 21

You may or may not have realized it, but this outfit is more or less the exact same as this outfit. All I did was add the blazer and change the belt and clutch. I've had all of these items for a while now, and it wasn't until I remembered this post that I realized I could try something new by putting them all together. Ta-Dah! A brand new outfit!

By the way, I took these pics myself! ...with the help of a tripod, a remote, a new lens, and some decent weather. I still prefer the work of my #1 photographer (my husband), and I definitely need more practice, but I think in due time I could become a pretty good back up...
What do you think?

Twenty-Five

Dress: Paulina Carmel | Belt: The Limited | Shoes: Calvin Klein via Macy's
Bag: Forever 21 | Flower Brooch (in hair): NY&Co.

Today is my birthday!

To celebrate, Paulina Carmel*, an online modest clothing store for women, is offering My Garments of Praise readers FREE shipping with code "BLOG12" on any order! I wore this dress from Paulina Carmel to a '50s-themed birthday party over the weekend, and I must say I felt classy, vintage, and current at the same time. Now that I am 25, I am feeling mostly vintage, but I'm hoping that will pass.

Enjoy the day everyone! It's the best day of the year, after all ;)

Men's Style // Colored Pants

This one is for the guys! Thanks to the style expertise of my faithful male model (no, seriously... I think he missed his calling to modeling), we collaborated on a mini-lookbook for guys who are still on the fence about colored pants.

Guys... Colored pants are a lot more versatile than you may think! They can be dressed up or down, preppy or edgy, and they add some fun to your ensemble. Here are a few different looks Dwayne picked out to show as examples... (Thanks again, babe!)

Outfit 1 - Sweater: Tommy Hilfiger | Shirt: Vazzoni | Slacks: Express | Belt: Express | Shoes: Aldo
Outfit 2 - Shirt: Banana Republic | Tie: H&M | Slacks: Express | Belt: Express | Shoes: Aldo
Outfit 3 - Shirt: Max's | Slacks: Gap (similar) | Belt: Diesel | Boots: Levi Strauss & Co.
