Symbolism 101

Blazer: XOXO via Macy's (old) | Camisole: Charlotte Russe | Skirt: The Limited
Shoes: BCBG via Ross | Clutch: Aldo | Brooch: Gift

I learned all about the symbolic meanings of color in my 8th grade english class while reading 1984, and learned even more in a basic graphic design class in college and again when I studied typology a few months ago. It's amazing how in these very different subjects and settings, most of the rules remained the same. Here are the broad basics:

White - purity
Black - mystery
Beige - elegance
Grey - stability
Red - love
Blue - dependable
Green - growth
Gold - strength
Purple - royalty

Instead of going with black (my go-to color), I decided to go with a purple cami.
I think it made a difference.

What do your colors say about you today?

  1. This reminds me of something my husband and I incorporated in our wedding ceremony: the Cord of Three Strands (in place of a candle or sand ceremony). Here: http://www.godsknot.com/CordOfThreeStrands.aspx).

This also reminds me that I am representing God when I wear the title "Christian" or associate myself with Christ. If I were the only Bible someone would ever read, what would they read? If I were the only Christian someone would ever meet, what would they see and feel? Would they see Christ's character? Would they see integrity, love for my neighbor, honesty, patience, forgiveness, thankfulness, etc.? Would I represent "Salyte"? ;-)

    Food for thought indeed...

P.S. The links to the scriptures don't work. Not sure if it's my PC, but I thought I'd mention it.

    1. I'll have to check out your wedding site! Also, thanks for the heads up... I fixed the links :)

  2. Actually that isn't my wedding site - sorry for the confusion! That is rather the site where I purchased the items for the Cord of Three Strands ceremony - it gives the meaning and supporting Bible verses. Each cord has a different color, and together they represent the union of the man and woman with God at the head. I had first thought about sharing the actual photos from my wedding actually! :-) Too bad I am on my phone right now so inserting the link will be tricky.

  4. This is such a pretty look. I like the print on the skirt. I can imagine it being paired with other prints or bold top colors! :)
